Discontinuing Mountee
Thanks for your support over the last half decade. Unfortunately, we’ve decided that we will no longer be updating or supporting Mountee.
When first started working on Mountee, Padraig and myself were both based in Ireland, and worked on a lot of ExpressionEngine projects together. We’d spent a lot of frustrating hours working with EE 1’s tempting system—so we dreamt up Mountee. Since then, Padraig has moved to Vancouver where he’s now works on a series of iOS Apps, and John spent 2 years at grad school in California before starting at an Interaction Design firm in New York. It’s now been a number of years since either of us worked on any ExpressionEngine sites.
With these personal changes, as well as the ongoing demands of maintaining an app as complex as Mountee (through multiple versions of OS X, EE, and MacFuse/Fuse4X/osxfuse changes), we’ve realized that we don’t have the time or resources to continue developing and supporting it. Maverick’s caused some major issues that took a lot of time to address; and EE 2.8 involved some fundamental changes that mean Mountee no longer functions; fixing this would involve a major rewrite of Mountee.
The kind of experience that we feel Mountee’s customers deserve, and that we had strived to provide when we first launched the software, we realize we can no longer provide. So, we’ve decided that it’s time for the app’s retirement. As of today:
- Mountee is no longer for sale (We’re offering refunds to anyone who purchased since 1 Jan 2014. .)
- We will keep the site up for the next few months, but you may want to ensure that you backup a copy of the App, module, and your license, so that you can continue to use it with versions of EE up to 2.8.
If you have comments, questions, or want us to post more details about some of the technical complexities involved, please get in touch or on twitter.
Thanks, it’s been fun.
